USD per year. The total is the first year at the register price plus each later year at the renewal price, or at Namecheap's lower rate for years paid upfront. Namecheap prices include the $0.20 ICANN fee so all five compare on the same basis. A transfer usually adds one year to the domain; .ai transfers are billed as two years.

The Five Registrars
Cloudflare
Cloudflare sells 404 extensions at the registry price plus the $0.20 ICANN fee, so the first year and renewals usually cost the same: $10.46 for a .com. It has the lowest renewal on all 10 popular extensions in the table above. Domains registered with Cloudflare must use Cloudflare's nameservers.
Porkbun
Porkbun lists 639 extensions and charges $11.08 to register or renew a .com. 384 extensions have a cheaper first year, such as .io at $28.12 and then $51.80. Against Cloudflare it renews 11 of 404 shared extensions for less.
Namecheap
Namecheap discounts the first year on 565 of its 571 extensions, and renewals cost more. A .com is $11.48 the first year and $18.68 after that, and a .io goes from $29.98 to $75.98. Namecheap's price list shows the ICANN fee separately; the prices here include it.
Dynadot
Dynadot has the longest list here at 816 extensions, with a .com at $10.88 to register or renew. It discounts the first year on 373 extensions, including .io at $28.89 before $53.50 renewals. Against Porkbun it renews 46 of 605 shared extensions for less and 4 at the same price.
Route 53
Route 53 charges one price per year for 412 extensions, with no first-year discounts: $16.00 for a .com. Registering a domain creates a Route 53 hosted zone for it, which has its own monthly fee, and the charge lands on your AWS bill. AWS credits cannot pay for a new registration.

Before You Renew or Transfer
.com goes up on November 1, 2026
Verisign is raising the .com wholesale price from $10.26 to $10.97. Registrars usually pass registry increases through, so expect .com renewals to rise by about $0.71 a year. Renewing for several years before the date locks in today's price for those years.
.ai transfers cost two years
The .ai registry renews in two-year blocks, so Cloudflare, Porkbun, Namecheap, Dynadot and Route 53 charge two years of renewal to move a .ai in. Both years are added to the domain's term, so the money is not lost, but the transfer itself costs $160.00 at the cheapest of them. Compare .ai prices.
Prices checked Cloudflare October 20, 2026; Porkbun October 20, 2026; Namecheap October 20, 2026; Dynadot October 20, 2026; Route 53 October 20, 2026.

Domain Registrar Comparison FAQ
Common questions about which registrar charges the least
It depends on the extension, but on renewals Cloudflare is the cheapest or tied for it on all 10 of the most popular extensions here, because it charges the registry price with no markup. For the first year, Dynadot is cheapest on 5 of them. A .com renews for $10.46 at Cloudflare and $18.68 at Namecheap.
For a .com, Cloudflare is cheapest at $10.46. A transfer normally costs one year at the new registrar and adds that year to the domain, so the price that matters afterward is the renewal. Namecheap charges $11.68 to transfer a .com in, then $18.68 a year to renew it.
Cloudflare, at $10.46 a year for registration and renewal. Over 10 years a .com costs $104.60 at Cloudflare, $108.80 at Dynadot, $110.80 at Porkbun, $148.10 at Namecheap and $160.00 at Route 53. Verisign raises the .com wholesale price by $0.71 on November 1, 2026, so expect every registrar's .com price to rise by about that much.
Of the 391 extensions all three sell, the cheapest renewal (or a tie for it) is at Cloudflare for 383, Namecheap for 2 and Porkbun for 6. Over 5 years a .com costs $52.30 at Cloudflare, $72.20 at Namecheap and $55.40 at Porkbun. Cloudflare requires its own nameservers, so Porkbun or Namecheap is the better fit if you want to run DNS somewhere else.
Cloudflare, at $80.00 a year to register and renew. The .ai registry renews in two-year blocks, so Cloudflare, Porkbun, Namecheap, Dynadot and Route 53 bill a .ai transfer as two years. New .ai names must be bought for at least 2 years at every registrar.
