Before You Buy a .de Domain
No German address needed
DENIC, the non-profit that runs .de, asks only for the holder's name, street address, email and phone. A holder outside Germany must name a German representative for legal papers only if DENIC asks, and then has two weeks to do it.
Privacy is built in
DENIC never shows the holder's details in public WHOIS and releases them only to authorities or parties with a legitimate interest. Paying a registrar for WHOIS privacy on a .de buys nothing.
Keep your contact details accurate
Under the EU's NIS-2 rules, DENIC checks holder data. If yours is flagged, you have about 30 days to verify it through your registrar, or the domain is taken offline and later deleted.
Transfers use an AuthInfo code
Your current registrar issues a one-time AuthInfo code that is valid for 30 days. The cheapest transfer here is $3.93 at Dynadot. Namecheap does not accept incoming .de transfers.
Track Your Cloud and AI Spend in Real-Time
The domain is the cheap part. CostGoat shows your hosting, cloud and AI API spend live, with alerts before a bill spikes.

.de Domain Price FAQ
Common questions about what a .de domain costs
Germany's country code. It is run by DENIC eG, a non-profit cooperative, and passed 18 million registered domains in July 2026, making it one of the largest country-code extensions in the world.
Anyone can: there is no residency rule and no need for a German address. DENIC needs a real name, street address, email and phone, and can ask a holder outside Germany to name a German representative for legal documents.
From $3.93 a year at Dynadot to $9.88 at Namecheap, with first years from $2.90. Over 10 years a .de costs $39.30 at the cheapest registrar here. Registering directly with DENIC costs €79 a year, so a registrar is far cheaper.
DENIC's WHOIS does not show the holder's name, address or contact details to the public, so every .de is private by default. Skip any paid privacy add-on a registrar offers.
Ask your current registrar for the AuthInfo code, which works once and expires after 30 days, then start the transfer at the new registrar. Dynadot has the cheapest transfer at $3.93. Namecheap does not accept .de transfers, and a domain under dispute cannot move.
