FAQ
For a US LLC, yes, and usually online. Fintech accounts such as Mercury, Wise Business and Bluevine accept non-US owners with an EIN and a passport, no SSN or US visit needed. Personal accounts and most traditional banks are harder: Bank of America, for example, asks non-residents to book a branch appointment.
Keep one. Mixing business and personal money weakens the liability protection the LLC gives you and makes taxes and bookkeeping harder. For a non-resident owner it also matters in practice: payment platforms and clients expect to pay an account in the business's name, and clean statements make the yearly IRS filings easier to support.
Most providers ask for three documents: the EIN letter from the IRS (CP575 or 147C), your formation document, and a passport for every owner of 25% or more. Mercury, Wise, Bluevine, Lili and Payoneer open fully online. What decides approval is mostly your country of residence or citizenship, so check each provider's country list before applying.
The state rarely matters. Mercury, Bluevine and Lili treat Wyoming, Delaware and other LLCs the same way. One exception: Wise Business does not accept Nevada LLCs. The address matters more than the state, because Mercury won't take a registered agent address as your operating address.
Usually only in person. Chase lets single-member LLCs apply online but asks other LLCs to visit a branch, and owners without a green card give passport details. Bank of America requires a branch appointment for non-residents. If you can't travel to the US, an online provider is the practical choice.
