Before You Buy a .org Domain
Compare the renewal, not the first year
Namecheap charges $8.68 for the first year and $19.18 for each renewal, more than double. Over 10 years a .org costs $109.30 at Cloudflare and $160.00 at Route 53.
Prices rose in June 2026
DomainNameWire reported that Public Interest Registry raised the .org wholesale price from $9.93 to $11.00 on June 1, 2026, the first increase since 2016. Its ICANN agreement has had no price cap since 2019, but renewal increases need 180 days' notice, and renewing for up to 10 years locks in today's price.
Open to anyone
The registry calls .org open and unrestricted. Charities and open-source projects use it, but so do businesses, clubs and personal sites. No proof of non-profit status is asked for.
Transfers add a year
Moving a .org costs from $11.20 at Cloudflare, and the year is added to the current expiration date. A registrar can refuse a transfer within 60 days of registration or a previous transfer.
Track Your Cloud and AI Spend in Real-Time

.org Domain Price FAQ
Common questions about what a .org domain costs
Anyone can, with no conditions. Public Interest Registry, the non-profit that runs .org, calls it open and unrestricted, so a business or an individual can register one just like a charity. The non-profit image comes from who has used it since 1985, not from any rule.
The first year costs from $7.98 at Porkbun, and renewals run from $11.20 a year at Cloudflare to $19.18 at Namecheap. Over 10 years a .org costs $109.30 at the cheapest registrar here.
Registrars discount the first year to win customers and earn it back on renewals. The gap is widest at Namecheap, $8.68 then $19.18. Cloudflare, which sells at cost, also charges less for a new .org ($8.50) than for a renewal ($11.20), so part of the discount comes from the registry.
The wholesale price rose from $9.93 to $11.00 a year on June 1, 2026, and registrars passed it on. It was the first .org increase since 2016, and the registry has said it has no further increases planned.
Cloudflare, at $11.20, followed by Dynadot at $11.64. A transfer includes a year of renewal that is added to the domain, so moving a .org when it is due for renewal costs nothing extra.
