Before You Buy a .com Domain
Prices rise on November 1, 2026
Verisign, which runs .com, is raising the wholesale price from $10.26 to $10.97 a year. With the $0.20 ICANN fee, the at-cost .com price goes from $10.46 to $11.17. Registry rules let you renew up to 10 years ahead at today's price, so extending a domain before then locks in the current rate.
More increases are allowed until 2030
Verisign's agreement with ICANN lets it raise the price by up to 7% a year in four of every six years, and the current four-year window started in October 2026. If it takes every increase, the wholesale price could reach about $13.44 by 2030. Verisign must give six months' notice of each one.
Compare the renewal, not the first year
Most registrars here charge close to the same price every year. Namecheap is the exception: $11.48 for the first year and $18.68 for each renewal. Over 10 years a .com costs $104.60 at Cloudflare and $160.00 at Route 53.
Transfers add a year
Moving a .com costs from $10.46 at Cloudflare, and ICANN rules add a year to the current expiration date. A registrar can refuse a transfer within 60 days of registration, a previous transfer, or a change of owner.

.com Domain Price FAQ
Common questions about what a .com domain costs
Between $10.46 and $18.68 a year at the five registrars compared here. Cloudflare is cheapest because it charges only the $10.26 wholesale price and the $0.20 ICANN fee. From November 1, 2026, that floor rises to $11.17.
Many registrars sell the first year at a discount to win customers, then charge their full price on renewal. At Namecheap a .com is $11.48 for the first year and $18.68 after that. At-cost registrars such as Cloudflare charge the same $10.46 every year.
Verisign may raise the .com wholesale price by up to 7% a year in four of every six years, with six months' notice, and registrars can change their own markup at any time. Renewing for several years at once locks in the registry price for those years.
Cloudflare, at $10.46, followed by Dynadot at $10.88. A transfer includes a year of renewal that is added to the domain, so moving a .com when it is due for renewal costs nothing extra.
For a .com, Cloudflare at $104.60 for 10 years paid upfront, followed by Dynadot at $108.80. Namecheap costs $148.10 over the same period. Paying for 10 years before November 1, 2026 avoids the coming increase on every one of those years.
