Before You Buy a .xyz Domain
Compare the renewal, not the first year
3 of the 5 registrars sell the first year for about $2, then charge $14.21 or more to renew. Over 10 years a .xyz costs $113.10 at Cloudflare and $197.32 at Namecheap.
Prices keep rising
XYZ.com has raised its prices in each of the last three years. Cloudflare, which sells at cost, now charges $12.30 for a new .xyz and $11.20 to renew. Registry rules require longer notice for renewal increases than for new registrations, so renewals may follow.
Check email deliverability
Cheap first years draw spammers, and the registry investigated 27,390 .xyz domains for abuse in the third quarter of 2026 alone. Some mail filters treat new .xyz senders with suspicion, so set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC before sending from one.
Numeric names cost $0.99
Every name made of 6 to 9 digits, from 000000.xyz to 999999999.xyz, is priced at $0.99 a year for registration and every renewal. It is a registry program, so availability and price depend on the registrar carrying it.

.xyz Domain Price FAQ
Common questions about what a .xyz domain costs
Anything. .xyz is a generic extension run by XYZ.com LLC, open to anyone aged 18 or over with no residency rule. Alphabet uses abc.xyz for its investor site, and it is popular with crypto projects, side projects and short brand names that are taken in .com.
It is cheap to start and easy to find a short name, which makes it good for projects and tests. The trade-offs are renewal prices of $11.20 or more a year and a spam reputation that can affect email. For a main business site, a .com is still the safer default.
Only the first year is cheap. Registrars sell it for about $2 to win customers, then charge full price to renew: $14.45 a year at Dynadot. The cheapest renewal here is $11.20 at Cloudflare, which sells at cost.
From $11.20 a year at Cloudflare to $21.68 at Namecheap. To move an existing .xyz somewhere cheaper, Cloudflare has the lowest transfer at $11.20, and the transfer adds a year to the domain.
The extension itself is safe to buy and use. Its low first-year price draws spammers and phishing sites, though, so some email filters and corporate firewalls are stricter with .xyz senders and links. A .xyz with proper email authentication and a real site behind it works fine.
