OpenAI shut down the Sora 2 API on September 24, 2026. Here is what Sora 2 and Sora 2 Pro cost, and what the video models you can still use cost per second.

OpenAI's video generation guide now opens with this notice:
“The Sora 2 models and Videos API were shut down on September 24, 2026 and are no longer available. No one-to-one replacement API is available.”

What Sora Cost
Before the shutdown, OpenAI billed Sora per second of generated video. Sora 2 was priced at $0.10 per second at 720p. Sora 2 Pro was priced at $0.30 to $0.70 per second depending on resolution. The Batch API cost half as much, with results returned within 24 hours. These rates are a historical record and no longer apply.

No. OpenAI shut down the Sora 2 models and the Videos API on September 24, 2026, so its video endpoints are no longer available. OpenAI keeps its video generation guide online for historical reference only and says no one-to-one replacement API is available. Any app that still calls Sora needs to move to another video model.
Sora was billed per second of generated video, so a clip's price was its length times the rate. A 12-second clip cost $1.20 on Sora 2 at 720p, and a 10-second clip cost $3.00 on Sora 2 Pro at 720p and $7.00 at 1080p. The Batch API halved each of those, to $0.60, $1.50 and $3.50, in exchange for results within 24 hours instead of right away.
For most former Sora API users, Google Veo is the closest match. It generates video from text or an image, adds native audio, and has a cheap Lite tier for drafts and a Quality tier for final shots. Kling's standard models are similarly cheap per second, and Seedance costs a little more. Run the same few prompts through each before you migrate a pipeline, since output style differs more than price.
Wan, Alibaba's video model family, is the main one. Its earlier releases ship open weights, so you can run them in ComfyUI on your own GPU and pay nothing per clip. The newer Wan releases are API-only and billed per second on fal, like Kling and Seedance.
